Barbara Munsel: 'Fragile' SS09 Collection

Barbara Munsel is what can be termed as an 'emotional' designer. She doesn't really work with specific themes when she creates her garments and accessories.

It's about bringing alive an apposite world than the one we live in... I like to express the worn effect worn in clothes. Like the dress with the embroidered cap sleeves and chiffon silk which is dyed in tea to give an old or antique look. Like they have a past.

The materials I work with are always natural and if they're not then it's from waste fabric or recycled. Like the net tulle for the strapless dress and tee are made from waste tulle. The embroidered cap sleeves are recycled from guatemale traditional clothing. I also work with organic cotton a lot which is also present in this collection.

Barbara Munsel is one of my favourite designers as she has such an amazing aesthetic, and I'm eternally grateful to Susie Bubble for introducing me to this designer.
